Valkyrie Challenges Authority (Response to a writing prompt found on Pinterest)

“The most technologically advanced spec-ops team in the world and we’re handing operational control to an eighteen-year-old hacker?”

“Actually, I turned nineteen two weeks ago,” Valkyrie volunteered. She could feel the beginnings of a headache and hoped the discussion ended quickly, so she could wake up and take some aspirin. She really hated operating inside the Matrix sometimes.

“I wasn’t talking to you.” The man in the suit was being particularly annoying today; she fully expected him to turn into an Agent any second now.

“No, you were talking about me, which is totally rude, by the way, as I’m standing right here. But also you’re overlooking the fact that I also have the field experience to back me up.” This wasn’t her first team, after all, but of course the idiot in the suit didn’t know that. It was, however, the first time she’d be leading such a team on her own, instead of being second in command.

“You’ve only been doing this for four years.”

“And in that four years I’ve accumulated more field experience than you and the rest of the ranking staff combined, so while you may not like the decision, or me, I’m the best qualified for the job. And just in case you’re wondering, no I don’t give a damn about your opinion of either of those topics. So help me or get the hell out of my way, because I am leading this team, and we leave in two hours. You have until then to decide what you’re going to do.”

1 Response to Valkyrie Challenges Authority (Response to a writing prompt found on Pinterest)

  1. This is based on a writing prompt I found on Pinterest; however, it’s set inside the Matrix universe of an rp group I used to own on MSN. Valkyrie was my character, and she was captain of her own ship, having been recently promoted to the rank after the death of her entire previous crew as the result of an attack by Squiddies, with her as the only survivor. After a nice long stay in the infirmary and months of rehabilitation and physical therapy, she was finally cleared to return to duty, and it was decided to give her her own ship, which she named the Freedom. It was a fun group, while it lasted, until MSN in their infinite wisdom (that’s sarcasm, by the way) decided to do away with all groups. I haven’t done a thing with my character since then until finding this prompt; maybe I’ll expand it sometime, when I’m not working on all my Harry Potter fan fiction stories.
