Mother’s Day 2017

I have had five mothers over the course of my life (I know, I’m extra special 😛 )—my biological mother, Judy Clark; my paternal grandmother, Deloris Clark, who raised me after my biological mother died; my stepmother, Linda Clark, who married my father in 1980, and who took care of him while he was dying of lung cancer in 1994, even though they’d been divorced for several years at that point; my mother-in-law, Shirley Boudreaux, who had never had a daughter of her own but still claimed me as her daughter even after her son and I divorced, and who insisted I be present at every family get-together, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas; and my best friend’s mother, Elaine Knipp, who after both my in-laws had passed away welcomed me into the family as a daughter—on Mother’s Day 2010, seven years ago today.

Every one of them has been special to me in their own way, and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them—their love and support has seen me through some of the toughest times in my life, and I’d have been lost without them.
